Similar to age of calamity, age of imprisonment will be a prequel story detailing the events of the imprisoning war, as seen in the legend of zelda I don't think it's worth playing, but that's me and im not you so i would suggest trying the demo on the eshop before buying. There are lots and lots of varieties of side missions, but its not known if there's outpost missions like in adventure mode at this time
