The xyz subs are fansubs, they are by definition not legal Sometimes that's an issue with subs in torrents. There are no legal subs at all for the vast majority of pokemon media

Torrents are the normal way to go but i'm unsure how active they still are
Also check your torrented files with vlc to see if you can activate the subs from there
